There are many options for business phone service in 2015, and businesses may be wondering where to start, there is one market leader who is delivering just what they need.

Vonage (News - Alert) Business Solutions is the business phone system side of one of the original voice-over-IP (VoIP) phone providers.

First, let’s make sure you understand the difference between VoIP and traditional, analogue phone systems. The traditional model, now going the way of the dodo bird, is using a telephone line for each call and transmitting the call via electrical signals. VoIP uses the Internet for transmission and is a digital flow of voice data. VoIP delivers more economical calling, plays better with mobile because it is digital, and also includes a bevvy of extra features that analogue phone service just cannot match.

There are both residential and business VoIP solutions, and one of the leaders in the space is Vonage. The company not only has its own infrastructure, which leads to better call quality, but it also focuses on innovative integration and features to help businesses work smarter. It takes advantage of the digital nature of VoIP, in a manner of speaking.

While on first look it might seem that businesses can just choose a residential VoIP solution, Vonage Business Solutions is a good example of why firms should look to business phone systems instead.

Residential VoIP service providers offer simple inbound and outbound calling connectivity typically through the use of analog telephone adapters (ATAs), but Vonage Business Solutions gives businesses IP-based phones that bring additional system functionality and lead to a more productive experience such as incorporating a firm’s CRM data in the office phones. There also are extra business features that come with business VoIP, such as auto attendants and PBX (News - Alert) functionality.

One aspect that sets Vonage apart from many other VoIP providers is that it is not just piggybacking off of wholesale VoIP network providers. Vonage has built itself from the ground up, which leads to better reliability. The company also has deep legs in the VoIP space, which allows it to better understand customer needs and provide better service.
