Provider of open source software solutions Red Hat (News - Alert) has selected Gemalto, a provider of digital security, to implement digital security tokens that enable secure remote access to its more than 6,000 employees.
Red Hat sees itself as a company that is at the forefront of open source technology. It feels that more secure measures are needed to protect its sensitive information, and username and password mode of protection is inadequate.
The company needed a security solution that provided the same standards that it works to promote, said Jay Madison, senior director for information and services at Red Hat, adding that “Gemalto (News - Alert)'s product and customer support throughout the deployment enabled our members to easily integrate the token into our multi-factor authentication process without missing a beat.”
The employees, who are accessing the company's virtual private network (VPN) and security assertion markup language (SAML) enabled applications, will find that Gemalto’s Protiva token integrates easily with Red Hat's strong authentication technology, according to company officials.
The deployment of a secure authentication system has become essential for companies of all sizes. Digital security tokens provide an extra-level of security and assurance that only authorized employees are accessing a network or sensitive information. The technology of security token is based on two-factor or multifactor authorization, according to Technopedia.
“The two-factor authentication market is growing rapidly and we are seeing that in more and more enterprises, strong authentication has shifted from being considered a best practice to now being a security policy obligation,” said Thomas Flynn, vice president of identity and access at Gemalto North America.
Gemalto’s security form-factor has provided Red Hat secure remote access, with an extra layer of security. Company officials said that since Red Hat places importance on open standard solutions, the interoperability of Gemalto's solution gives it the flexibility to easily integrate it into their existing and future IT systems.
Recently, SFR (News - Alert) Business Team, a France-based cloud service provider, and Gemalto announced the new SFR "OTP1 Cloud" offer dedicated to business customers in security as a service mode, integrating Gemalto's Protiva Cloud Confirm software.
