Mocana (News - Alert), a provider of smart device security solutions, announced it is bringing advanced security capabilities to the family of commercial out-of-band management products from Communication Devices, Inc. (CDI) by including NanoSSH security software.
The open-standards-based NanoSSH software is designed to speed product development while providing best-in-class device security services for resource-constrained environments. The software has an extremely small footprint, is platform-agnostic and features an optional government-certified FIPS 140-2 level-1-validated cryptographic core with NSA Suite B support.
NanoSSH is embedded into each member of the new CDI Port Authority 200 series. Serving at the heart of the out-of-band management products from Communication Devices, NanoSSH software allows them to support multiple SSH sessions and communicate over an AES-encrypted data stream.
The Port Authority 200 series is based on CDI's highly successful Port Authority 100 series featuring a built-in FIPS 140-2 hardware encryption engine required by government regulation for federal purchase.
The Mocana NanoSSH software has helped CDI adapt the new PA200 family to the tight budget constraints of the enterprise commercial market by maintaining high security standards without the need for costly security hardware.
The service provides network managers with an invaluable tool for gaining secure out-of-band root access to routers, firewalls and other network devices, even when the rest of the network is down or security-compromised, the company said in a press release.
"Our super-fast, super-small NanoSSH software has been optimized to deliver high performance within resource-constrained embedded security environments like that of CDI's PA200 products, providing a full-function and professional SSH solution that's smaller and faster than anything else out there," said Kurt Stammberger, CISSP, vice president of market development at Mocana, in a statement.
Communication Devices provides network security and its out-of-band network management products for military agencies of the U.S. federal government, most major telecommunications carriers and the largest banks and financial services companies around the world.
"The cost-effective NanoSSH suite enabled us to achieve within our limited code and memory space all the SSH functionality and data stream encryption we required for this new, lower-cost family of out-of-band management products targeting managed service providers," said Tadhg Kelly, CEO of Communication Devices, in a statement.
"The NanoSSH software's small kernel dropped right into our Freescale (News - Alert) MQX environment, and the Mocana support team helped us to get our products up and running faster than we thought possible," Kelly added.
Recently Mocana announced that its NanoCrypto device cryptographic engine is being used by Freescale Semiconductor to provide security for its new Kinetis wireless solutions for ZigBee Smart Energy Version 2.0.
