There is no disputing the constant innovation taking place today, and much of this is due to groups coming together to drive digital transformation. As software-defined solutions surge, and networks move in a more open direction, groups like ONAP (Open Network Automation (News - Alert) Platform) are building momentum, in a big way.

This week, ONAP announced the addition of four new members to its ranks. The new members include LG Uplus Corporation, KT (News - Alert) Corporation, Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications and Hangzhou Eastcom Software Technology Corporation. The newly minted members join over 50 technology leaders and service providers to create a neutral automation platform.

It was a fortnight ago that ONAP unveiled its first release, Amsterdam. And, now ONAP’s 30 projects underway will gain additional insight and help from the project’s four newest members. The more the merrier, as working toward a vendor agnostic, universal-type networking and infrastructure solution takes a village to craft.

"We are delighted to grow our global community by welcoming four new members to the project," said Arpit Joshipura, general manager of Networking and Orchestration, The Linux Foundation (News - Alert). "Our ongoing membership growth demonstrates that the industry understands the demand for network automation and establishes ONAP as the de-facto standard. With the announcement of Amsterdam, we are well on our way to uniting organizations from around the world to create a new business model around a shared architecture and implementation for network automation."

Each new addition fuels ONAP’s efforts, and while old saying goes many hands make light work, in this instance many hands are making revolutionary work. Quite fitting for this current phase of digital transformation, wouldn’t you say?

How many different vendor’s components make up your network?
