To address the issue of echo in Asterisk (News - Alert)-based IP PBX systems, OctWare has announced the availability of SoftEcho a channel upgrade option that provides a simple means of integrating Line Echo Cancellation (LEC).
The company claims the upgrade provides best-of-breed per channel solution at the same cost as inferior add-ons pushed by Asterisk PBX (News - Alert) vendors.
"Echo problems in Asterisk are well-known and many IP PBX makers up-sell echo cancellation solutions," said Fabio Gambacorta, vice president of sales and marketing at OctWare, in a statement. "Unfortunately, the echo cancellers offered by these manufacturers are based on the lowest cost, resulting in inferior quality.”
OctWare uses an algorithm the company claims works better than off-the-shelf echo cancellation solutions. The algorithm has been tested and improved through years of testing in large-scale carrier deployments worldwide through Octasic (News - Alert), OctWare's parent company.
SoftEcho's algorithm is auto-tuning meaning that no adjustments are necessary. SoftEcho learns its environment and quickly adapts to it. It handles double-talk and background noise better than the generic echo cancellation solutions currently integrated into popular Asterisk PBX systems, claims the company.
OctWare's SoftEcho is available as a download for $10 per channel through global distributors.
