CRM Week in Review: Open Source CRM Reports Big News, Cloud Telephony Launches Live App

By Kelly McGuire, TMCnet Editor

Welcome to the week in review for the customer relationship management, or “CRM,” industry. Below are some of the top stories that came across the TMCnet news wires this week.

It was a big week for open source CRM provider, SugarCRM (News - Alert).

On Tuesday, the company announced keynotes, sponsors and the final agenda for SugarCon 2010, its global customer, partner and developer conference.

The conference, to be held from April 12-14 at The Palace Hotel in San Francisco, Cali., attendees will learn how cloud computing, social networking and open source applications and market trends can affect, impact and attract and retain customers.

According to SugarCRM officials, Microsoft, Red Hat (News - Alert), Talend and Zend are among the industry players sponsoring the conference, which unites CRM customers and developers with companies and projects committed to building open business applications for the cloud.

And on Thursday, open source CRM provider, SugarCRM, seems to be evolving into a mainstream go-to platform for any and all business CRM needs.

Keeping that in mind, the company just announced a new Open+ Partner Program, extending its channel program to provide additional value for open source CRM channel partners.

Jeff Campbell, vice president of worldwide sales at SugarCRM, said that Open+ creates even more distance between SugarCRM’s award-winning channel program and those of other CRM providers.

“SugarCRM offers unmatched value for VARs looking to build sustainable revenue streams in the Cloud,” Campbell said.

On Tuesday, Ifbyphone (News - Alert), a cloud telephony company that offers a suite of phone automation services to enhance customer communications, has launched VoteByPhone, a live-audience-polling application for “simple, real-time polls over the phone.”
According to Jonathan Minkoff, executive director of SingStrong, VoteByPhone made their job easier and faster.

“Not only does VoteByPhone give us the results we need immediately, and with perfect accuracy, but our audience actually gets to watch those results as they happen,” Minkoff said.

VoteByPhone application can be configured by anyone interested in real-time survey results, including live-audience events, radio stations, conferences, advertising agencies and political campaigns, company officials said.
