Open Source CRM Provider Announces Record Year, Much Ahead in 2010

By Kelly McGuire, TMCnet Editor

With 2009 being a difficult year for many companies in the telecom industry, no matter in what market, it’s always uplifting to hear that a company’s performance exceeded expectations.

And for open source customer relationship management, or “CRM,” provider, SugarCRM (News - Alert), who announced today that 2009 was a record year across a number of key measures, it proves that through the maelstrom, a determined organization can beat all odds.

Company officials said that in addition to a record year in revenue, the company’s customer base, community and partner development grew to new heights.

Newly appointed CEO Larry Augustin said that – after such a solid 2009 – SugarCRM is incredibly well positioned for 2010, with an exciting set of customer, partner and product announcements that will accelerate innovation in the CRM industry.

“Companies are running very tight operations with emphasis on growing the top-line, while controlling costs and recognizing immediate value from their CRM investments,” Augustin said. “These are all areas in which SugarCRM and our global partner network excels.”

With the competition as fierce as it is, a recent Jigsaw study reported that, out of all the CRM applications in the world, SugarCRM is one of the top three most widely used. Not too shabby.

Adding over 2,000 new commercial customers in 2009 and securing over 50 new technology and value-added reseller, or “VAR,” partnerships, SugarCRM expanded its professional horizons to new depths, including international reach with transactions in over 75 countries.

According to company officials, SugarCRM’s goal is to deliver open, interoperable CRM solutions that can run in any cloud environment.

So, in 2009, when the company announced a partnership with Microsoft (News - Alert) to provide SugarCRM applications on Windows Azure, the commitment to this cause was even more advanced.

The company also released the Sugar Community Edition on Amazon EC2 in 2009, which allows developers to access, test and develop Sugar code in a cloud-based environment supported by Amazon Web Services’ (News - Alert) Elastic Compute Cloud.
