By Stefania Viscusi, Assignment Desk Editor
Open Source CRM provider, SugarCRM is recognizing the benefits of providing customers with flexible, well supported software with the announcement of more than 1,000 paying customers and over 1,000,000 downloads of their Sugar Open Source, worldwide.
Open Source provides companies of all sizes with a cost effective, flexible alternative to proprietary applications. SugarCRM's software helps industries to better their customer relationships and business performance.
Customers are increasingly buying into open source as they recognize the benefits over proprietary solutions. With open source, customers are given multiple deployment options as well as support for a number of platforms and databases.
With Open Source CRM, which provides application design flexibility and innovative user tools, delivered at a lowered cost, users are also empowered to build a higher quality, more useful product that provides better customer interactions.
Sugar Open Source, the SugarCRM core application, available for free, has been downloaded 1,000,000 times and with quality and product improvements, it has grown to include over 300 extensions and other enhancements contributed by the developer community.
"Customers want to be in control and avoid being locked in by proprietary software vendors. The move to commercial open source is happening at the operating system, database and application layers. Commercial Open Source is an idea whose time has come," commented John Roberts, CEO SugarCRM in a statement.
Most recently, the company announced a new customer, the State of Oregon Department of Human Services, who selected SugarCRM to improve communication with healthcare providers in the state while also maintaining compliance. Utilizing SuagrCRM's Sugar Cube appliance they were able to achieve HIPAA compliance while also enhancing management and the way information was shared.
