Teridion Global Cloud Network Receives Network Product Guide Award

Teridion was recently honored as a gold-level winner in the Hot Technologies category of Network Products Guide’s (NPG) 11th Annual 2016 IT World Awards.

San Francisco-based Teridion develops the Global Cloud Network (GCN) solution, which is the basis for award. It takes a different approach to dealing with Internet congestion. GCN relies on virtual backbone technology that uses performance-based routing to deliver content much faster than a regular CDN. It requires no investment in additional infrastructure in order to work.

A company-produced video also takes a different approach in promoting the GCN. Instead of having an exec discuss the technology, it uses performance comparisons between doing a large upload (50-200 MB) on a conventional network versus doing the same upload on the GCN. According to the video the GCN is anywhere from 2-20 times faster.

The 2016 IT World Awards are based on categories, regions, and company size. Teridion’s award is under the ‘Suitable for USA’ section for companies with 11-99 employees. Other regions around the globe are also represented, as well as companies ranging up to 2,500 or more employees in size.

On June 27, there will be a red-carpet awards ceremony in San Francisco where recipients can receive their awards and give acceptance speeches. This is not the first time Teridion has received an IT World Award. In 2013 it was a bronze winner for Startup of the Year.

Obviously the company video showing performance comparisons was edited to run in a two-minute promotional format, but it would be a relatively trivial matter to test the same uploads to verify Teridion’s claims about the GCN’s performance. Assuming these claims are accurate, just about any business should find it to be a compelling solution, given the speed and that it does not require infrastructure. As is often the case, when a technology makes this much of a leap forward, it’s usually because it uses a new approach, not because it does the old approaches better.
