By Anuradha Shukla, TMCnet Contributor

Network processor manufacturer Advantech (News - Alert) has chosen the Innovasic RapID Platform and fido1100 System-on-a-Chip (SoC) solution to provide EtherNet/IP connectivity in its new ADAM-6100 series of real-time Ethernet I/O modules for factory automation.

The RapID Platform from Innovasic is a complete, royalty-free design that provides EtherNet/IP and PROFINET connectivity for factory automation applications.

The companies note that businesses and users can download the entire platform for a free evaluation directly from the Innovasic website.

Innovasic Semiconductor provides extended life semiconductor solutions for customers who have products with long life-cycles.

"Innovasic's fido1100-based RapID Platform for Industrial Ethernet enables customers to quickly and cost-effectively get new products to market," said Jordon Woods, Innovasic CTO. "By utilizing the flexible architecture and programmability of the platform, customers can rapidly release a series of compatible industrial Ethernet products," he concluded.

Advantech is a global ePlatform service provider integrating Web-based hardware and software technology, solutions, and customization services that empower the connected eWorld.

"Innovasic's platform provided the means for us to quickly add EtherNet/IP connectivity to our new product line. The RapID Platform provided us with a low-cost and highly reliable solution for our new I/O modules," said Jason Lin, product manager, Advantech Industrial Automation Group. "This is our second development using the Innovasic solution and it enabled us to launch six new I/O modules simultaneously and within a very short time from our initial EtherNet/IP PAC product release."

Advantech recently announced the launch of its DSPC-8681 Multimedia Processing Engine (MPE) at the NAB Show 2011, as reported by TMCnet. The DSPC-8681 MPE is an add-in card that integrates four Texas InstrumentsTMS320C6678 multicore digital signal processors (DSPs), the PLX ExpressLane PEX8624 PCIe switch, and the Xilinx (News - Alert) XC3S200AN Spartan-3 FPGA in order to achieve the highest video performance level in a half-length PCIe form factor.
