NetFlow Analysis Provider Lancope Announces New FlowSensor Product

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

Lancope, a provider of NetFlow analysis and provider of StealthWatch for flow-based network performance and security monitoring, announced the general availability of its latest product, the StealthWatch FlowSensor 250.

Real-time flow visibility is critical for overcoming both network and security-related issues, according to company officials.

FlowSensor 250, a lower capacity, compact form-factor appliance, enables Layer 7 application monitoring to dramatically increase network visibility into branch offices and remote locations.

The solutions enables branch offices and remote locations to achieve comprehensive network visibility down to the individual IP flow, pinpoint security-related network problems, as well as troubleshoot network latency and application performance problems.

StealthWatch has the ability to gather packet-level metrics to monitor all network communications, thereby reducing Mean-Time-to-Know (MTTK) for identifying and troubleshooting network issues faster than ever.

The new solution provides borderless network visibility to isolate the root causes such as malware, botnets, policy violations or misconfigured network devices and restore performance quickly and efficiently, according to company officials.

StealthWatch FlowSensor 250 appliance finds typical application in healthcare institutions, government agencies and retailers that have hundreds of disparate locations for which they need network visibility but NetFlow is not natively available, Lancope sources said.

“Global 1,000 companies with remote and small offices require network insight to manage IT effectively,” said Adam Powers, CTO of Lancope, in a statement. “Before Lancope introduced the StealthWatch FlowSensor 250, there was no way to obtain sufficient visibility – at a reasonable cost –into their network, making it significantly more difficult to manage today's increasingly complex wide area network.”

The solution can passively monitor network traffic and create NetFlow records for detailed analysis by the StealthWatch Flow Collector or any NetFlow v9-capable flow collector. Thus it cost-effectively delivers actionable network visibility for optimizing network and security operations at a fraction of the cost of traditional probe-based devices.

StealthWatch FlowSensor 250 is now generally available and is shipping in North America and the European Union.

Earlier in November the company announced that Network Computing & Computing Security magazines recently named its StealthWatch product suite the 2010 'Network Security Solution of the Year.’
