Eyeball Networks Launches AnyFirewall Developers Community

By Tim Gray, TMCnet Web Editor

Eyeball Networks (News - Alert) has created an AnyFirewall Developers Community designed to enable integration of standards-based NAT traversal features into IP communications applications using industry leading AnyFirewall Engine (AFE) software.

The Vancouver-based Eyeball Networks, a leading developer of NAT-traversal solutions, and voice, video, IM software, provides NAT and firewall traversal software optimized to complete as many VoIP and video calls through peer-to-peer media delivery with fallback to client/server due to the many benefits this direct approach provides.

The idea behind this new and open community is to allow AnyFirewall Developers the opportunity to access software and support to integrate 100 percent NAT traversal into their IP communications applications such as VoIP phones, online communities and networked games.

“Firewall and NAT traversal is a widespread industry challenge and one of the key barriers to mass adoption of VoIP,” said Shahadat Khan (News - Alert), CTO of Eyeball Networks.

The community, which can be found at http://developer.anyfirewall.com , also provides an online NAT traversal demo, example code, technical literature and access to an online AnyFirewall Server – a carrier grade STUN-TURN server.

“We are pleased to offer this community to collaborate with the VoIP application developers and device makers on a standards-based solution to this problem,” said Khan.

Eyeball AnyFirewallEngine is a NAT traversal Software Development Kit (SDK) for guaranteed VoIP and video call completion across NATs, firewalls, and Web proxies. It is designed to integrate with third party components such as SIP and JINGLE stacks, RTP libraries, and other voice and video engines for rapid development of feature-rich applications.

AnyFirewallEngine also offers the highest rate of peer-to-peer (P2P) media transport in the industry providing high call quality due to reduced delay and packet loss as compared to using relay servers, according to Kahn.

For service providers, this suggests low infrastructure cost, low bandwidth cost and high service scalability.
