Until recently, Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) communications were finicky at best due to the low penetration rates of high-speed broadband Internet. However in today's world, broadband Wi-Fi connections are available in almost every business and workplace. Mobile networks in particular are also becoming much better at delivering quality Internet connections on smartphones, which is creating a much stronger breeding pool for mobile VoIP services.
Because VoIP requires so much less infrastructure than traditional cellular or landline telephone networks, mobile carriers can deliver it at lower prices. Mobile VoIP also tantalizingly offers higher audio quality on phone calls as well as easier access to powerful business calling features thanks to cloud-based technology and unified communications. Due to these major advantages, the mobile VoIP and unified connections market is expected to be worth over $17 billion by 2019 according to a recent research report.
The report, compiled by the MarketsandMarkets research firm, predicts that the mobile unified communications and collaborations market is expected to grow with a compound annual growth rate of 27.5 percent through the rest of the decade, significantly expanding its current valuation at around $5.15 Billion.
In addition to lower costs and higher quality services, VoIP and unified communications offer tools like call recording and conference calling – usually included for free with the service. When these services are available on mobile VoIP platforms, suddenly all of the tools of an office cubicle are available on a phone. This connects employees like never before, allowing for collaboration from any location that can even be supported by video chat services, or voicemail to email transcription. Find-me-follow-me calling features will even ring multiple devices in succession if needed in an attempt to reach the intended recipient no matter what thanks to support from the modern reliability of VoIP phone systems.
