Hosted UC Might be Cheaper Than You Think

By Matt Paulson, TMCnet Contributing Writer

Hosted UC providers offer a business phone network solution that sounds almost too good to be true. Not only is it generally cheaper than most combined landline and cellular policies, but hosted UC also automatically contacts users with the most efficient resource possible - ringing on multiple devices if needed to ensure calls are sent through. When combined with the general higher quality of voice when using IP phone networks, it would seem unlikely that hosted UC is actually cheaper than traditional landline phone networks. But as Stacey Corbin responds in her blog on DSCI to those that fear hosted UC is too expensive to switch to, the myth is now busted.

For starters, modern Hosted UC platforms are both lower priced and higher quality than almost any plan offered by either mobile or a landline-based network. This is because Voice over IP (VoIP) phone networks transmit more signals faster by converting them into compact packets of data and sending it through the Internet using a broadband Internet connection (a business necessity on its own).

In fact, high-speed Internet has been the backbone supporting hosted IP communications in recent years, giving it the power to deliver even more complicated and diverse data segments which delivered even higher quality voice and reliably. Hosted UC also takes advantage of the fact that mobile and even home phones can also connect to the Internet and use VoIP - providing a seamless transition between all three with as little infrastructure as possible.

Therefore, while the average hosted UC services cost around $32 per user per month for a high-featured phone system, the same service with a landline or even premise-based VoIP solution will run users upwards of $48 monthly.

Corbin points out that a company with 100 employees can save upwards of $130,00 using a hosted UC service to connect everything from office phones and headsets to personal mobile apps and even home phone numbers.
