Mobile Video Collaborations Increase Among the Enterprise Sector

By Oliver VanDervoort, Contributing Writer

There have been all kinds of different side effects from the massive growth of Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) policies at the enterprise level. One of the side effects that people did not see coming was the rise in mobile video collaborations. A new study by Strategy Analytics (News - Alert) shows that mobile video producers and providers have seen a huge bump in adoption since companies started to loosen the reins on certain devices employees could bring to work.

BYOD is becoming credited with the expanded adoption of devices across all levels of enterprise companies. Due to this rapid growth, there have been all kinds of consumer applications that have taken the professional route. VoIP applications, such as FaceTime (News - Alert) and Skype, are being used by enterprise companies. Mobile video collaborations are now used by corporate types more than ever before because they are already comfortable with what these consumer applications offer.

The study shows how the way people communicate with coworkers and clients has changed over the last few years. While email used to be the simplest method to get answers, this is no longer the case. Similarly, texting started to take a backseat for people who are now able to quickly and easily video chat using their mobile devices. Although the current user base of mobile video services totals just half a million, that number is expected to grow about 20 times over the next five years.

Kevin Burden, director of mobility for Strategy Analytics, recently put out a statement that discussed the need to prepare for this bump in mobile video use. Burden pointed out that enterprise companies will need to create a plan for the impact on infrastructure and budget. Optimizing its Wi-Fi network capacity is going to be the best way for a company to plan for increased mobile video collaborations.
