Mobile VoIP Growth Predicted to Explode

The future looks bright for mobile VoIP as a recent report predicts the global mobile VoIP solutions market will grow at a compounded annual growth rate of 64.6 percent over the period of 2011-15. That’s a big increase.

Analysts at Juniper also are bullish about mobile VoIP. Last month they released a report that predicted the mobile VoIP user base would expand to more than 1 billion by 2017, according to the company.

The ease of deployment and decreasing cost associated with mobile VoIP is definitely one of the factors. The tools needed for VoIP equipment have come down in price, making it possible for businesses to provide mobile VoIP much more easily than before. This is happening both on the business and the operator side.

One service making it easier for operators is REVE Systems’ iTel Mobile Dialer Express. The iTel Mobile Dialer Express application lets customers make VoIP calls from their mobile phones. It works on all major platforms, including not just iOs and Android (News - Alert), but also Windows Mobile and Symbian operating systems.

The offering makes it easy for customers to use their smartphones for VoIP calls, and it is a brand-able, turnkey solution that helps operators easily offer VoIP services.

REVE also offers the iTel Mobile Call Back Dialer for countries where customers demand a way to minimize outgoing calls. With the solution, operators can easily give their customers a VoIP-based callback solution that is also  brand-able, integrates with user phonebooks, provides excellent call quality and works with existing operator infrastructure, according to REVE.

Not that the mobile VoIP industry is without challenges, however. The TechNavio report also said that one issue the industry faces is a perceived lack of security. With landlines and analog technology, there’s the assumption that calls are safe. But with mobile VoIP, its ease of use and portability makes it feel like it is insecure.

This concern is relatively easily resolved, however, as consumers are educated about the technology.

Some of the other trends in the mobile VoIP space, according to Juniper, include specialist mobile VoIP companies opening their Application Programming Interfaces to third parties including MNOs to gain revenues, the arrival of 4G to give mobile VoIP even more momentum, and monetization of video calling and premium services.
