Veraz Networks, Dialogic Announce Plans to Merge

By Marisa Torrieri, TMCnet Editor

In a move that promises to strengthen its presence in the telecommunications service provider and enterprise markets, Dialogic Corporation, a provider of interactive mobile video and other advanced services, announced plans to merge with Veraz Networks (News - Alert), a provider of bandwidth optimization and next-generation switching products.

The new company will retain the Dialogic name and San Jose headquarters, and Dialogic CEO Nick Jensen (News - Alert)will hold the head post.

'While the capability of mobile networks around the world has been steadily expanding, the future will bring even greater demands on the networks due to the unprecedented growth in global mobile data and video traffic,' said Jenson in a news release. 'By combining Dialogic's (News - Alert)proven expertise in application enablement for voice and video with Veraz's leadership in voice, data, session control, security, and transport, we will be creating a company with innovative products that will enable our customers to unleash the profit of video, voice and data for 3G/4G networks.'

According to Dialogic, more than 80 percent of the Fortune 2000 companies and service providers worldwide rely on the company's application-enabling technologies. Likewise, more than 130 service providers in over 80 countries rely on Veraz's next generation switching and bandwidth optimization products and services to leverage the power of IP technology.

'The merger of Veraz and Dialogic will create a new and exciting company with the product portfolio and resources to be a true mission critical supplier to service providers,' said Doug Sabella, president and CEO of Veraz Networks. 'The combination of Veraz's direct global footprint and Dialogic's channels will create a company of substantial size with global reach and resources, thus allowing our customers to be extremely confident when they choose to partner with us.'

Earlier this week, IPcom, a company specializing in designing, developing and implementing core platforms and value-added services for the mobile and fixed telephony markets, announced a partnership with Dialogic Corporation to launch 3G video applications and mobile location-based services.

IPcom officials said the company picked Dialogic platforms to offer the video and LBS solutions in more than ten countries in Latin America.

'At IPcom, our customers always come first and we pride ourselves on the fact that we develop our systems using the best and most reliable enabling technology in the market,' said Alejandro Rettig, IPcom's vice president of R&D. 'This is why, after a thorough evaluation, we chose Dialogic to meet the new and unique challenges associated with delivering video over 3G networks.'

Rich Tehrani (News - Alert), who has interviewed Jim Machi, senior vice president of marketing for Dialogic, on a number of of occasions, said there are a few takeaways from this news worth mentioning.

'The first is that obviously Dialogic sees more opportunities in the carrier space,' Tehrani said in his blog. 'Regarding the benefits for customers he had this to say via an e-mail interview: 'Dialogic will have enhanced scale, enhanced financial stability but mostly we see more of an end-to-end play in the service provider market since we enable the value added services to the consumer and will have a portfolio of products to take the media stream through the network, such as gateways, bandwidth optimization products and softswitches. This should also help as video value added services become more widely deployed.''
