Dialogic: Offering Technology to Meet Multi-Screen Demands

Assignment Desk Editor

Today, users across the world are turning to IP networks as a preferred mode for viewing video content. As an alternative to traditional broadcast television, mobile video and Internet video or “IPTV (News - Alert)” are increasing in popularity – especially as new mobile devices and support for mobile video services are introduced.

A recent Dialogic (News - Alert) white paper, “Finding Success in a Multi-Screen World,” discusses the rise in popularity of Internet and mobile video and the increasing investments network operators are making in multi-screen enablers to provide video content.

Thanks to improved bandwidths for IP-based networks, users are demanding dynamic video capabilities for both personal and professional use.

In addition to high bandwidth, availability of new technologies necessary to process video has allowed creation and consumption rates to soar across the world.

These advancements include the ability to see movies before release dates in the home or via a PC as well as streamed via HD at any time.

Also, in the sports industry, the introduction of mobile video services mean events no longer need to be listened to over the radio or in front of a TV, but can instead be streamed in its entirety over a computer or a user’s mobile phone.

Most importantly, users are not only able to access a wide array of video content whenever and where ever they choose - also known as time-shifting or place-shifting but they are also able to view the video on any device they choose – also known as “device shifting.” This includes the ability to view video over a portable device, television set, computer screen, and more.

The role of the network operator in offering multi-screen services – or the availability of video content on television, Internet and mobile phones - has also increased over time. In addition to supplying the multi-screen service and providing a conduit for third party content and media, the network operator must now also add value to the content.

As a provider of media products, Dialogic offers the technology needed to display mutli-screen video. This includes tools for transcoding, transrating technologies as well as scalable media processing platforms and more.
