Dialogic 2000 Media Gateway Series Now Interoperable with IBM Sametime Unified Telephony
Assignment Desk Editor
Dialogic Corporation has announced that its 2000 Media Gateway (News - Alert) Series (DMG2000) is now certified for interoperability with IBM Sametime Unified Telephony. The interoperability will make it possible for enterprise users to easily enable UC applications even in legacy PBX (News - Alert) environments. "As a result of our collaboration with Dialogic, enterprises will now be able to realize the benefits of IBM's Sametime Unified Telephony while using their existing PBX equipment and reducing the potentially disruptive and expensive upgrades to new PBX equipment," said Akiba Saeedi, director of unified communications and collaboration at IBM. Expected to be available from IBM (News - Alert) in July 2009, the Sametime Unified Telephony software makes it easier to deploy UC in environments with multiple, mixed telephone systems. This includes the ability to make calls using an integrated softphone, as well as have aggregated presence for contacts and the ability to route calls, set rules for call handling and send alerts for incoming calls. IBM Lotus Sametime Unified Telephony is a key offering of the company’s soon to be released UC portfolio of software and services aimed at helping businesses use UC to “work smarter and save money.” "Sametime Unified Telephony does not hold businesses captive to one vendor's vision of unified communication, it works with what you already have, preserving your IT and telephony investments," said Bob Picciano, general manager IBM collaboration.
DMG2000, a turnkey appliance, seamlessly merges traditional telephony with IP networks and makes it possible for businesses to migrate to IP telephony and unified communications. The gateway is also one of the first to be certified interoperable with Sametime Unified Telephony. ![]() Because the gateway brings together voice and data networks without needing expensive or disruptive system upgrades, it is a cost sensible solution for enterprises wanting to deploy new applications.
With Dialogic’s (News - Alert) DMG2000 gateway, enterprises with legacy PBX systems can access the advanced capabilities of Sametime Unified Telephony so they too can benefit from cost-effective unified communications and collaboration applications. "In today's market, there is a substantial opportunity to support enterprises in making a cost-effective migration to VoIP," said Jim Machi, senior vice president of marketing at Dialogic.
"The combined DMG2000 and Sametime Unified Telephony solution will allow enterprise IT managers to easily adopt IP-based unified communications while using their existing infrastructure at an incremental cost, rather than taking on a huge CAPEX investment."
