NMS Communications Intros Vision CX Video Gateway

By Stefania Viscusi, Assignment Desk Editor

NMS Communications has made it easier to connect 3G networks to IP-based video applications with the introduction of the Vision CX Video Gateway (News - Alert).

The new carrier ready media and signaling gateway makes it possible to connect the networks to applications like video blogging, video ringback tones and video sharing.

Services that are connected via the Vision CX Video Gateway will offer more communications and entertainment options for mobile users and will provide operators with even more ways to increase revenues.

According to Wainhouse Research's findings the rate of 3G video-enable phone adoption will climb and hit 150 million by 2010.

NMS says the new solution is the first "first integrated gateway to bridge the gap between 3G mobile phones and IP applications for both video and voice services carried over ISDN and SS7 networks."

"Using the 3G standard allows for a very high level of interactivity and a very quick way to change channels and streams. It's also powerful for inserting multiple graphics on the screen and doing overlays," Jamie Warter (News - Alert) VP of marketing at NMS told TMCnet.

The Vision CX Video Gateway goes beyond traditional gateways that are limited to only video and offers dynamic ports to handle both video and voice traffic. The ability to handle both helps operators save on costs and reduces management efforts as well as the space required to support multiple devices. To further simplify deployments for carriers, the new gateway also integrates SS7 signaling so operators don’t have to run separate boxes.

“Our customers and partners have recognized that today’s mobile phones have transcended communication to become information gathering resources, portable entertainment devices and even video cameras,” said Jamie Warter, vice president of marketing at NMS Communications.

Using video, operators can come up with compelling services that drive more demand for bandwidth and revenue.

With the new gateway for example, a travel agent can send a video of a resort to potential guests as a visual demonstration or a mobile phone provider can make use of video and send a short video SMS message to a new customer demonstrating how to use the phone's features.

Another area video can be used is in the contact center. Not only do video enabled contact centers reduce call center costs and give customers a faster way to get in touch, they also provide a richer experience and enhance technologies like IVR so that customers calling from a mobile phone can watch a video of how to interact with the system rather than listening to voice prompts.

“Delivering the video services subscribers increasingly demand requires a media and signaling gateway with the flexibility to handle voice and video and all of the necessary protocols seamlessly, without any specialized routing requirements. The Vision CX Video Gateway is a great addition to the NMS Vision family of gateways and servers.”
