D2 Technologies Taking Lead in Mobile UC

By Tim Gray, TMCnet Web Editor

In recent years Mobile Unified Communications (News - Alert) has continue to evolve, and the growth of convergence software solutions has played a big role in helping address the needs of OEMs.

Companies such as D2 Technologies (News - Alert) have taken the lead in this space solutions geared toward providing OEMs and ODMs an economical way to quickly develop today's most advanced enterprise-class wireless access points and residential gateways delivering triple- and quadruple-play voice/video/data/wireless functionality with the lowest possible power consumption.

The Santa Barbara-based D2 Technologies’ mCUE and vPort products are available for use by manufacturers in a wide variety of product segments covering consumer, enterprise and carrier devices.

At the heart of each of these solutions is a core technology that has been deployed for applications such as wired/wireless voice-enabled terminal adapters, routers and gateways as well as VoIP phones and multi-mode mobile handsets, according to the company.

That means D2’s products can be integrated into an existing product or a new device and can be optimized to specific end-user device requirements.

For example, the mCUE universal IP communications client software provides a turnkey solution including a graphical user interface (GUI) combined with IP communications middleware  to service providers and handset OEMs seeking quick time to market, volume, scalability and portability.

Examples of products where mCUE can be used include: Dual mode phones; Wi-Fi handsets; and Mobile Internet Devices (MID).

The mCUE is designed to be used in Mobile Internet Devices (MID) and are expected in the near future to work in conjunction with applications such as gaming, navigation, multi-media, e-book readers/browsers and social networking.

In addition, vPort middleware solutions offer voice engine, protocol processing and system implementation optimizations that are critical in embedded devices such as: WiFi Handsets (VoWLAN/WiFi); Dual Mode Phones and FMC VDSL/VDSL2; FTTH: PON & GPON WiMAX Routers; IP Phone / Speakerphone; IP Set-Top-Box (IPSTB); Cordless Phone; Analog Telephony Adaptor / VoIP Gateway.
