Plantronics Unveils Blackwire 700 for PC, Mobile Calls

By Carolyn J Dawson, TMCnet Contributor

Plantronics (News - Alert) recently announced that it has launched a crossover USB headset especially for multimedia, PC and mobile calls. Missing calls on a mobile while working on the computer, listening to music or making a softphone call can be nuisance. Users can now connect to both their PC and mobile in a simplified manner with Plantronics’ latest Blackwire 700 line of headsets.

The Blackwire 700 line of headsets is not only convenient for all-day use but also offer the finest audio. For the first time, the Smart Sensor technology from Plantronics has been incorporated into these corded headsets. Using this technology, the headsets can pause music and route calls instinctively whenever they are worn by the users.

The flexible headset offers the best-in-class PC audio quality as it can also connect to a Bluetooth enabled phone or tablet, thereby making it best for users using PC and a mobile phone or tablet. Users can take mobile calls away from their desk as the headset includes a separable cable and incorporated clothing clip and offers a talk time of maximum 10 hours.

In a statement, Amy Huson, senior director, Enterprise Marketing, Plantronics said, “There are some big trends happening at work – people are working in open offices and people are bringing their own devices to work. This presents challenges such as privacy and multi-device connectivity. The Blackwire 700 is the industry’s first corded USB headset, designed for softphone calls and listening to music that also allows people to take a mobile phone call on-the-go when privacy is desired.”

The headset features sensors that perceive whether the headset has been worn or not. Accordingly, features like ability to answer a call by merely placing on the headset, or stopping media like iTunes or Pandora (News - Alert) on the mobile device when the headset is taken off are activated by the sensors. The sensors also assist in transferring the audio from the mobile phone to the headset if they are being worn or vice versa when not in use.

Users can improve their experience of Blackwire 700 by downloading Plantronics Spokes software. This software allows users to control calls across several softphones. Users can also custom design the features of the sensor.
