Syniverse Expands Relationship with Largest Japanese Mobile Operator, NTT DOCOMO

By Deepika Mala, TMCnet Contributor

Syniverse (News - Alert), a firm that simplifies the business and technical complexities of mobile communications, recently announced plans to provide NTT DOCOMO, Inc. with proven and comprehensive Wi-Fi data and financial clearing solutions.

The Wi-Fi Clearing Solution from Syniverse is based on the joint interfaces and standards of the Wireless Roaming Intermediary Exchange. It offers the data and financial clearing necessary for end-to-end inter-operator settlement between all types of wireless local area network providers, as well as comprehensive reporting and extensive data storage.

Officials said the solution also ensures full compliance with WRIX standards, processes and interfaces for Wi-Fi clearing.

With the help of the new solution, NTT (News - Alert) DOCOMO, the largest Japanese mobile operator, will now be able to follow industry standards and processes for Wi-Fi roaming. It will also be relieved from internal operations and conversions that would otherwise be required and simplifying both wholesale and retail billing.

“To enable the simple, interoperable, always-on experience end users demand, Wi-Fi has rapidly moved to a must-have service offering for today’s mobile service providers,” Syniverse Chief Operating Officer Alfred de Cárdenas said, said in a statement. “We look forward to providing NTT DOCOMO the solutions it needs to deliver on the promise of mobility.”

The first Wi-Fi services agreement of Syniverse in Asia Pacific is built on its relationship with NTT DOCOMO. The agreement is also supported by Syniverse’s fast-growing momentum in the Asia Pacific region in which it serves more than 180 customers, including a number of leading mobile service providers.

Last year, Syniverse announced major wins in Japan, South Korea, China and India.

In related TMC (News - Alert) news, Syniverse signed a definitive agreement to acquire MACH (News - Alert), another telecom operator, for $550 million.
