Mobile Unified Communications: DT Technologies Updates vPort Product Information

By David Sims, TMCnet Contributing Editor

D2 Technologies’ (News - Alert) officials have announced updated information for their vPort products, which are billed as delivering “the high voice quality, efficiently tuned system implementation, and broad OS and IC support necessary for manufacturers to build” VoIP products.

With vPort, company officials say, “OEMs and ODMs can develop a range of VoIP-enabled devices without being distracted from product platform design and branding.”

Evidently it’s a flexible platform that supports multiple services, such as SIP-based VoIP and VoIM -- PC-based IM/P2P voice such as Skype (News - Alert), GoogleTalk, Yahoo! and MSN. In addition, company officials say, “the vPort simultaneously lowers costs by enabling the use of softDSP, provides OS and IC flexibility by abstracting the software layer, and improves performance by eliminating latency inherent in other” products.

vPort enables networking, signaling and voice processing functions to execute as an integrated tool on a single processor, company officials say, explaining that “this in turn offers substantial advantages in bill-of-materials (BOM) cost, power consumption and ease of integration.”

They add that the software is optimized not just for voice quality, but also for a small memory footprint, low processor (CPU MHz) impact and low latency, and adds true real-time performance to non-real-time operating systems.

Earlier this month TMCnet reported that D2 Technologies, a company focused on embedded IP communications software platforms, acquired Webia Technologies through an all-stock transaction.

Headquartered in Taipei, Taiwan, with development centers in Taiwan and Shanghai, China, the company said Webia was one of the first software vendors to introduce set-top box media player platforms based on Google's (News - Alert) Android OS. Webia also unveiled the world's first Android TV solution at Broadband Taiwan 2010.
