By Raju Shanbhag, TMCnet Contributor

ManageEngine (News - Alert) has ambitious plans for Desktop Central, its desktop and mobile device management (MDM) software. The company recently announced the 2014 roadmap for the product, which includes plans to support Windows Phone 8 and BlackBerry, Android (News - Alert) containerization, content management and advanced integrations with OEM devices.

Desktop Central is designed to help companies manage numerous servers, desktops and mobile devices from a central location. It automates the complete desktop management and mobile device management life cycle, which includes activities from simple system configuration to complex software deployment. It works to secure end-user devices from a wide range of threats and offers comprehensive report generation for IT assets auditing.

"Mobile technology has become synonymous with change,” said Mathivanan Venkatachalam, director of product management, ManageEngine. “In response, we are constantly expanding the Desktop Central feature set to ensure we meet our customers’ evolving needs now and in the foreseeable future.”

ManageEngine thus plans to introduce several new features to Desktop Central in the coming year. These features include MDM support for Blackberry, which will include application management for managing device applications and security management features such as lock device and data wipe; containerization for Android devices, which will allow for the segregatation of work data and personal data on devices; content management to manage documents with accessible permissions; and advanced integrations with OEM devices, designed to bolster Desktop Central MDM capabilities with vendor-specific policies and features.

Venkatachalam added, “While not exhaustive, our 2014 roadmap reveals where we believe customers will need assistance with mobile over the course of the year and how we can best help them."
