New Customer Tests Begin on BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10 System

By Steve Anderson, Contributing TMCnet Writer

Those who counted BlackBerry (News - Alert) out of the game may have counted too soon, as BlackBerry's newest enterprise mobility management (EMM) solution is already in at least a few hands for testing right now. While BlackBerry Enterprise Service (BES) 10 is now available, BlackBerry's already into the next steps of refining the offer with BES10 version 10.2, and some fairly major names are currently in the process of finding any issues with the new system with an eye toward fixing the same.

The BES10 version 10.2 testing is currently in progress in places like Boeing (News - Alert), Morgan Stanley, and the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board, which should go a long way in terms of proving that BES10 version 10.2 can offer up value no matter what segment of the market looks to bring it into play. Further, almost 30,000 commercial and test servers for BES10 have been established worldwide, and this gives BlackBerry even more value in its testing procedures by not being strictly limited in geography.

Testers were drawn to BES10 version 10.2 for its utility and its trustworthy nature, as many have turned to BlackBerry solutions in the past and found said solutions to be of good quality and highly secure. One of the testers in question, Secusmart (News - Alert), commented on what drove it to BES10 version 10.2:

“Secusmart's needs an EMM solution that can enable our workforce to be more productive and connected, while maintaining our strict security standards and not compromising on our end user experience. BES10 provides the necessary functionality and security for our employees and has truly exceeded our expectations,” explained Secusmart CEO Dr. Hans-Christoph Quelle (News - Alert). “We've benefitted tremendously from BlackBerry's single, secure multi-platform connectivity model to mobilize our business and empower our employees to be more productive and better equipped to serve our customers.”

That's pretty high praise, which really only strengthens in the light of awards like those offered by the U.K.'s enterprise IT publication V3, which offered BES10 its award in Best Mobile Device Management Software for 2013. With a steadily-increasing proliferation of mobile devices out there, and more of these mobile devices coming to work on the strength of the bring your own device (BYOD) doctrine that's making it into workplaces throughout the United States and beyond, more work is being done on mobile devices. Due to this, as well as the total number of such devices in play, a fairly substantial premium is being placed on mobile device management software to address the growing need.

Without the proper mobile device management systems in place, a network could be compromised, valuable information could be lost or even stolen, and productivity itself could be hampered or brought to a comparative standstill. None of these are results that companies want – half the point of BYOD is to improve productivity in the first place – so putting in proper mobile device management systems only makes sense. It may make sense to turn to BlackBerry for this, especially given that, for years, BlackBerry was pretty much the face of business as we knew it. The challenge, however, remains catering to employee preference, however.

The ultimate key, of course, is proper mobile device management, and users may yet be able to get all that's needed from an old and trusted friend in enterprise communications: BlackBerry.
