MobileIron AppConnect Gets Extra Mobile Access Strength with Framehawk

By Steve Anderson, Contributing TMCnet Writer

Framehawk has announced that it has become a part of the larger MobileIron AppConnect system, and this connection is set to bring with it plenty of extra value for those who regularly use MobileIron AppConnect. Thanks to the new connection, corporate applications are set to have not only the necessary performance that's needed, but also the ability to secure and manage all that data as well.

Framehawk is a young start-up company that deals primarily in mobile access that's fast, secure, and tailor-made for the enterprise applications market. This made it an especially good fit for MobileIron AppConnect, which deals primarily in providing security and management for mobile applications, mobile devices, and their associated documents. Bringing the two companies together allowed for an improved mobile platform to be constructed, which was at once able to perform at the levels demanded by enterprise users but at the same time was secure enough to protect the results of that work from unauthorized users.

The big driver behind the MobileIron AppConnect / Framehawk integration effort, of course, is the rapid rise of the mobile workforce and the “bring your own device” (BYOD) philosophy. With workers able to work where and when necessary, using devices that are most familiar to them, it's opening up a wide variety of benefits for worker and business alike. But the down side is that it becomes all the more necessary to provide a stable platform from which employees can operate, and stock that platform with the right apps. Employees need to be able to access the applications and information required to do their job correctly, yet at the same time, that information needs to be zealously protected from outside incursion.

That's where Framehawk and MobileIron AppConnect can offer a sound product, with secure tunneling features, data containerization to help protect data further yet keep it on hand for those who need it, and auto-configuration tools to make the process simpler and safer. Interestingly, this isn't the first addition MobileIron AppConnect has made, having also recently brought in Webalo and others into the fold to augment the offering.

The idea of BYOD has plenty of benefits associated with it, but at the same time, there are also some significant risks associated with the model that can't be easily ignored. A mobile workforce offers unprecedented opportunity for business to take advantage of a new way of doing things that, in the right conditions, can prove very lucrative. But making those right conditions involves plenty of security and an easy access to the right tools. The combination of Framehawk and MobileIron AppConnect, meanwhile—along with MobileIron AppConnect's clear commitment toward continuous improvement--should go a long way toward providing that crucial mix for business users.
