Every Company is Turning to MDM for Security

By Ashley Caputo, TMCnet Web Editor

Our favorite mobile devices are susceptible to viruses, data brokers and hackers, which can be very dangerous for users who rely on their phones for work purposes. If you are a business owner or IT technician and have not yet adopted a secure mobile device management (MDM) solution into your network, now is the time.

As the BYOD trend continues to make headway, industry experts are trying to create new solutions that will protect user’s information. The most recent company to add MDM security to its suite is Spiceworks (News - Alert), which has joined forces with Fiberlink to add a mobile device management functionality to the next version of its free network and IT management software. The ad-funded Spiceworks software is used by IT staff to uncover the latest happenings on their networks, like what types of apps and programs that their employees are using so that they can maintain a productive workflow and downloads that could threaten security. However, in order to total avoid dangerous situation, a MDM solution is required.

There are places like the virtual private network (VPN), which allows businesses to create an integrated platform of connection with a user’s business computer or mobile networks from remote locations. This is also another danger for large enterprises. Such usage of a network puts the company’s information at risk if users are downloading applications that could cause a breach in privacy. In order for a company to monitor the devices that are being used on their VPN it is important that they are utilizing security solutions like MobileIron’s Mobile App Security and Access Control, which allow administers to set which applications are required, allowed or banned.

MobileIron has just become even more secure after its collaboration with the addition of Box (News - Alert) to its AppConnect ecosystem, where businesses can now provide employees with secure content sharing and collaboration across mobile devices. The Mobile IT protects app data-at-rest and data-in-motion and controls the flow of content out of Box and has the ability to revoke access to Box immediately if an employee leaves the company, if the mobile device falls out of compliance with the organization's security policies, or if the device is lost or stolen.
