Accellion Integrates Mobile File Sharing App with MobileIron AppConnect

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

Accellion, a provider of secure mobile file sharing solutions, announced it has integrated its Accellion Mobile App with MobileIron’s AppConnect, an enterprise mobile application management solution from MobileIron, which is now available. MobileIron AppConnect focuses beyond simple mobile device management to include mobile application management capabilities.

The new Accellion Secure Mobile File Sharing, integrated with MobileIron AppConnect, allows organizations to seamlessly secure not only the device but also the content and helps keep business information separate from personal information.

It works by wrapping mobile applications in a secure MobileIron container that is distributed via

a private app store. The integration is a major step towards bolstering the mobile device management capabilities of customers from both Accellion and MobileIron because the integrated solution delivers a seamless user experience for accessing and sharing enterprise content securely on mobile devices, while allowing IT to manage content policies and access controls at the enterprise level.

“One of the biggest challenges that organizations face in light of the mobile device explosion is empowering employee productivity while mitigating the security risks of lost or stolen devices with access to sensitive content,” said Gary Rogers, SVP, worldwide sales, Accellion.

Customers now get an option to securely view, edit, share and sync enterprise content on smartphones and tablets. They can also create and edit Microsoft (News - Alert) Office-compatible documents.

The new Accellion software is compatible with SharePoint, Windows File Shares and other ECM systems, allowing users to gain real-time mobile access to the file stored in these content storage applications.

With bring your own device (BYOD) gaining traction, content security and management becomes part of IT administration. The integration of mobile sharing with mobile security management simplifies the task of IT administrators, allowing them to set policies for content security including the ability to selectively wipe the app container and all its contents while keeping other device data intact.

“Content is the lifeblood of an organization. Our customers want to give their employees access to the business documents they need wherever they,” said Ojas Rege, VP Strategy, MobileIron, in a statement. “Deploying both Accellion and MobileIron not only allows them to improve mobile productivity, it also gives them the assurance that business data stays secure and separate from personal data.”

Accellion software comes with capabilities such as authentication to confirm user’s identity, authorization to allow or block app usage, dynamic policy control, content restriction controls and automatic decommission in the event a device is compromised.

As part of the MobileIron AppConnect ecosystem, Accellion users can exchange content with other AppConnect-enabled apps, as well as other apps approved on an IT-managed whitelist.
