Sophos' Mobile Device Management Solution Crosses One Million Devices

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

Sophos, a provider of mobile device management (MDM) and security solutions to protect data against complex threats and data loss, has revealed that its mobile device management solution is now deployed in more than one million devices worldwide.

This major milestone comes on the heels of some other mobile device management news the company had in 2012 including a major strategic acquisition, product enhancements and the release of several free mobile security apps.

First, the company recently acquired Dialogs, a mobile device management (MDM) solutions provider. The acquisition has strengthened its leadership position in enterprise mobile protection.

Additionally, the Sophos Mobile Control 2.5 which was released this year, provides a simple way to bring your own device (BYOD) into the enterprise. The product also offers a new Web-based administrative console and extensive feature set. And the Sophos Mobile Control as-a-Service eliminates hardware costs and reduces time to administer MDM solutions. The service offers a range of delivery models, so businesses can quickly and easily deploy the MDM solution without any changes to their existing IT infrastructure.

The Sophos Mobile Security is a free, lightweight anti-virus app that protects Android (News - Alert) devices against malware, privacy issues and hardware loss while Sophos Mobile Encryption is a free app that integrates with Sophos SafeGuard Enterprise. It allows customers who use the encryption for cloud storage module to securely view documents saved in Dropbox (News - Alert) or Egnyte on Android and iOS devices.

"Enterprise Mobility Management is a key focus area for Sophos and this will continue into the coming year, with bigger launches, greater integration and more platform support, all of which we're excited to introduce to partners and customers," said Thomas Lippert, senior product manager, Sophos, in a statement.

"More customers are turning to Sophos Mobile Control to protect their mobile workforces, and this increased adoption has been further accelerated by our complete security approach, of which mobile plays a key part," Lippert added.
