MobileIron is a mobile device management provider that offers customers the ability to securely distribute and manage specific applications like those offered by Avaya (News - Alert). This solution shows how a corporate security policy can be applied as well as take action to quarantine the user when that policy is violated.
This recently published video demonstrates the power of the MobileIron mobile device management solution. To introduce an unmanaged iPad to the corporate network, administrators will need to install the MobileIron “my phone at work” client and register the device. This is a simple download and installation from the App store.
Once installed, the user is then prompted for the iPeer name of the company’s MobileIron virtual smartphone platform and their corporate name and password. Users will then be required to download the security profile and settings. For example, MobileIron can set the policies for corporate-owned iPads that a nurse may use for patient data and communication. This includes a six-character password.
The mobile device management solution also offers a list of do’s and don’ts. The user must not have Angry Birds installed and must be running iOS Version 5 or later because of the additional security parameters. Once the device is licensed and registered, it is secured by MobileIron’s mobile device management system. But the user will be prompted, once again, to change security passwords to ensure the utmost security in the system.
Going into the MobileIron client, users are now able to install enterprise recommended applications and apply the two top recommended Avaya mobile care coordination applications: the Avaya mobile activity assistant and Avaya one-X.
The Avaya mobile activity assistant allows mobile workers to receive actions and notifications including phone calls, text interactions and requests to conduct a business process. Avaya one-X for iOS delivers enterprise telephony capabilities to the iPod Touch, iPhone (News - Alert) or iPad.
If a user violates a privacy setting, like downloading Angry Birds, MobileIron will detect that the device is in violation of the corporate security policy. MobileIron will remove the Avaya activity assistant and notify the user of the violation so they can take appropriate action. The user is notified via e-mail and the assistant is removed from the iPad desktop.
Once the device is taken out of service completely, MobileIron will retire the device. This process is done in the MobileIron virtual mobile device management console. It can remove all the corporate profiles and applications. The device is returned to its original state and all of the Avaya applications are removed.
Mobile device management is an exceptional solution offered by MobileIron to ensure that users are only able to access the Avaya mobile care coordination applications when adhering to the corporate security policy. This not only protects the network, but also the user and the device from malicious activity or intent.
