AirWatch (News - Alert), a provider of mobile device management (MDM) and mobile application management (MAM) solutions, has just unveiled a vast array of new, highly innovative software that provides secure, all encompassing mobile device management capabilities for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad devices using iOS 5.
Currently available in three options – either as a Software as a Service (SaaS (News - Alert)), appliance or on premise behind a corporate firewall – the AirWatch MDM Agent App for iOS 5 includes new MDM features that will enable applications to be seamlessly integrated into the iOS devices via the Apple (News - Alert) Push Notification Service protocol, according to a press release. The release also noted that the new MDM support for “Managed Applications,” includes both internal applications and public applications that can be utilized on managed devices.
In addition, iOS 5 also powers various security functions such as encrypted email support through S/MIME, Exchange ActiveSync (EAS) email and iCloud restrictions, the release highlighted. iOS 5 is fully compatible with iPhone (News - Alert) 3GS, iPhone 4 and the new 4S, the latest iPod touch versions three and four and both iPads.
“Apple’s iOS 4 platform provided IT managers with the capability to deploy devices securely to the enterprise,” said John Marshall, CEO, AirWatch in a statement. “As enterprises increasingly focus on developing and deploying internal apps, iOS 5 enhances the ability for IT administrators to push or pull applications, streamline business processes and improve customer service. Apple also continues to push the envelope with data protection; iOS 5 has one of the most secure platforms for corporate email with S/MIME support and additional security restrictions.”
Furthermore, AirWatch’s MDM functionality assists enterprises in instantly configuring internal and public iTunes applications, and easily manages application deployments. Fully integrated with iOS 5, the release revealed that AirWatch enables IT to install authorized applications as soon as the device becomes active, enables users to install applications on demand via MDM via the AirWatch App Catalog, eliminates managed applications on demand once a device becomes non-compliant, evenly distributes redemption codes that have been bought from Apple’s VPP and simply keeps track of application deployments through the AirWatch management platform.Jamie Epstein is a TMCnet Web Editor.
