Mobile Device Management Improved with New Mobile Apps from MobileIron

MobileIron has added new mobile apps that can dramatically improve mobile device management during a time of changing and diverse technology.
MobileIron meets different needs. For example, it provides mobile device management solutions that can be customized for different operating system platforms, the company says on its website. They can be separated out by private apps and public apps. In addition, IT administrators can publish private apps to end users and not put them in App Stores or the Android (News - Alert) Market. This speeds up app discovery, so end users can locate them and download the apps from their mobile devices, the company explains.
In addition, by employing MobileIron App Security and Access Control, mobile device management can select – fast – which apps are needed and “associate these apps with rules that specify the consequences of being out of policy.”
In addition, there is now a proliferation of apps on mobile devices – so seeing mobile device management of enterprise apps from a single IT view is increasingly important. MobileIron’s Mobile Application Inventory provides a good view of the apps in all of a company’s managed devices, the company says on the site. MobileIron also lets mobile device management use mobile app inventory “to track new applications coming into the enterprise, determine the popularity of applications, and identify possible rogue applications. In addition, administrators can monitor user adoption of mobile enterprise applications they have built and published.”
In a related matter, MobileIron reported in a recent blog post there is a great diversity in terms of the type of technologies use. In the case of a major retailer, a warehousing tablet app is used in the supply chain to match manufacturer samples. It also needs to have a new catalog at the store counters, so a web-based catalog can be used on a tablet to eliminate printed copies. And a new customer relationship (CRM) database app meets the needs of personal shoppers.
“Mobility is no longer about OS preferences, what matters most going forward are secure public and private mobile applications,” the company explains. “Millions of business professionals use smart devices because always-on application connectivity is a huge productivity boost. And the OS vendors are quickly catching on.
