Toktumi Chosen as One of AlwaysOn's OnMobile 100 Top Companies

By David Sims, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Tony Perkins, founder and editor of AlwaysOn, has introduced the first annual OnMobile 100, which looks at “the top emerging companies transforming big industry and creating viable business models for the mobile marketplace.”

The AlwaysOn editorial team, along with partners at Morgan Stanley, DCM, KPMG, Hewlett-Packard (News - Alert), Blackstone Group and others, including industry experts across the globe, according to Perkins has “scoured the entrepreneurial community to identify the top 100 private companies that are pushing aggressively into the mobile space and turning the old smartphone into a must-have connected device.”

Companies were selected based on a set of five criteria: innovation, market potential, commercialization, stakeholder value, and media buzz.

The mobile market is “booming,” Perkins says, “as evidenced by researchers, who are predicting that more smartphones will be shipped in 2012 than PCs, and there will be more mobile Internet users than PC Internet users by 2014."

This year's OnMobile (News - Alert) 100 companies are noted for developing what are deemed to be “game-changing approaches and technologies that are likely to push outside the bounds of existing markets and away from entrenched players.”

One of the companies so selected was Toktumi (News - Alert), provider of mobile communications app Line2.  Line2 which is currently in its third version, provides users with the first and only Tri-mode (WiFi, 3G/4G, cellular) calling app. With Line2 users can place and receive calls over Wi-Fi, 3G/4G data connections and over cellular using the same number.  WiFi and 3G/4G data calls use VoIP allowing you to place and receive calls and texts even when you don’t have a cell signal.,

In late March TMC’s Rajani Baburajan wrote that Cvent (News - Alert),a provider of online event management meeting site selection and Web survey solutions, announced that AlwaysOn, a business media, selected Cvent as a 2011 OnDemand Top 100 Private Company.

The OnDemand 100 represents private on-demand and software-as-a-service (SaaS (News - Alert)) companies which are contributing to the industry with innovative cloud computing. It also highlights some of the highest-growth opportunities in the private company marketplace.
