Metro Ethernet Feature
Fibrenoire Picks Ciena Carrier Ethernet Solutions for Metro Ethernet Services
Network solutions provider Ciena Corporation announced that Fibrenoire, a provider of fiber-optic Internet connections and private network services, has selected Ciena Carrier Ethernet Solutions (CES (News - Alert)) to enhance the delivery of metro Ethernet services to enterprise customers in Québec and Ontario.
The solutions, which include Ciena’s 3960 and 3920 Service Delivery Switches, will support Fibrenoire’s IP MPLS Internet backbone that runs over 3,000 kilometers of optical fiber.
Thanks to the explosive growth of data across networks, enterprises today are looking to deploy transport-class packet network solutions to ensure scalable bandwidth and business services.
According to Chad Whalen, vice president and general manager, North America field organization at Ciena, CES allows the metro Ethernet provider to bring “the low-touch, high-velocity benefits of Carrier Ethernet-powered connectivity to enterprise customers in Quebec and Ontario.”
Offered as part of Ciena’s Carrier Ethernet Solutions (CES) portfolio, the 3960 and 3920 Service Delivery Switches enable the delivery of 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet Virtual Private Line (EVPL), Ethernet Private Line (EPL) and Business Internet services to local enterprise customers in different industry verticals like IT, media, healthcare and retail industries.
The CES series of Carrier Ethernet solutions is also marked by robust management and performance monitoring features, allowing clients like Fibrenoire to easily scale to meet the fluctuating customer demand for high-speed data services and ensure Quality of Service (QoS) for maximum uptime and competitive advantage.
“With Ciena’s proven Carrier Ethernet Solutions, we are able to monitor our network, and make adjustments rapidly and efficiently, to support our market-leading Business Services service level agreement,” said Jean-Francois Lévesque, chief technology officer at Fibrenoire, in a statement.
Ciena’s CES portfolio is used by more than 150 carriers, wireless service providers and cable operators worldwide, with an installed base of nearly 250,000 Ethernet-enabled sites.
In a related development in the industry, FiberLight, a leading provider of Metro Ethernet services, announced it was recently signed as an Amazon Web Services (News
- Alert) (AWS) Direct Connect Solution Provider. Following this development, FiberLight will be able to hook up their clients with a direct connection to the AWS data centers using secure access to the cloud.
