A FiberLight Q&A on Metro Ethernet

By Erin Monda, TMCnet Contributor

FiberLight (News - Alert) officials recently shed some light on some of the trends facing the Metro Ethernet Market in a Q&A with TMC:

What are your thoughts on the current Metro Ethernet market and its diversity?

FiberLight sees the current Metro Ethernet market as extremely positive in terms of growth and value to both the carrier community and the enterprise and government customers. The performance improvements, scalability of Ethernet, simplicity in management and the ability to cost effectively collapse multiple applications over a more robust platform make Ethernet the choice of the market, today and for the future.

Can you provide some background on the different connectivity offered to PoPs, colos, datacenters?

FiberLight offers connectivity from more than 60 POPs to over 3100 commercial buildings and more than 200 data centers and colo facilities in our footprint, 21 metro markets in the southern half of the United States.

What products does FiberLight provide for the Metro Ethernet market?

FiberLight offers a full suite of Metro Ethernet services over our fiber optic network. FiberLight offers E-Line, a point to point offering leveraging our core fiber networks. FiberLight offers an E-LAN any to any or one to any Ethernet offering and FiberLight offers an E-Tree offering for its wholesale customers looking to extend their reach within our markets from a single or redundant POPs. FiberLight has also participated in several of the carrier Ethernet exchange services, extending our presence through Equinix (News - Alert) and Telx today, and soon additional interconnection points will be added.
