In a bit of news from the master agent industry, Level 3 Communications has signed multi-year agreements with Cox (News - Alert) Communications to deliver high-speed IP and transport services.

Level 3 will expand the capabilities available through its wholesale partner program, company officials said, explaining that this lets Cox use and resell Level 3’s services and that Cox will purchase additional dark fiber from Level 3 to expand its backbone and help grow its broadband network.

Jay Rolls, Cox’s senior vice president of technology, said to ensure the “optimal quality” of Cox services, “we must regularly expand and enhance our network capacity, capabilities and reach. The strategic relationship with Level 3 allows us to bolster our network and more effectively deliver voice, video and data products to homes and businesses.

TMCnet recently wrote that Level 3 announced its selection by Rotterdam- based game server provider, Interactive 3D B.V. for the provision of high-speed IP services.

The HSIP services are expected to help Interactive 3D support and its network scalability and connectivity issues. Besides the wavelength transport services out of Level 3’s Rotterdam point-of-presence, the service will also allow Interactive 3D to peer in multiple locations, Level 3 officials say.

Stijn Koster, CEO of Interactive 3D, said on a daily basis, “more than one million people play games on Interactive 3D hosted servers, and our goal is to help our customers deliver the best online experience possible for those gamers in terms of low latency, stability and reliability. With Level 3, we’re getting the scalability of a Tier 1 network at our fingertips and a team as committed to the customer experience as we are.”

According to Level 3 sources, its services enable Interactive 3D to cater to the burgeoning demand for Internet connectivity from gaming customers and European Internet exchanges.
