Arkansas-based service provider and carrier of master agent TBI,  Windstream (News - Alert) has extended its large bandwidth Ethernet offerings into 11 new metropolitan markets. The company and its partners can now deliver bandwidth Internet speeds of up to 1 Gbps to business customers in Indianapolis, Wichita, Baton Rouge, Mobile and several metro markets in Ohio and Oklahoma.

"We are thrilled that customers in an expanded area can now take advantage of even faster Internet speeds with Windstream's Ethernet Internet Access product," Don Perkins, Windstream vice president of business marketing, noted in a statement. "Windstream's full suite of next-generation technology solutions provide businesses with competitive pricing and tremendous value."

Windstream says that its hallmark Ethernet Internet Access product can provide business customers with enhanced reliability and performance, dedicated connections as well as symmetrical upload and download speeds. In addition, the ISP claims that its product minimizes operating expenses by offering greater bandwidth at a lower cost per megabit than other competing technologies.

Large businesses with corporate headquarters and branch offices can also choose to stay connected through a private, multisite network using one of Windstream's MPLS Networking Solutions.

Zacks Investment Research has said that the new initiative will allow Windstream to deliver broadband to 93 percent of its total network footprint, which is mostly made up of underserved areas. The service provider's local and long-haul fiber network spans approximately 60,000 route miles. Windstream's footprint extends across 29 states and the District of Columbia.

Windstream's recent network expansion is due in large part to its investments in its own infrastructure ,as well as a string of recent acquisitions. The company acquired the assets of Q-Comm and NuVox (News - Alert), and recently invested $20 million into its own fiber network, according to Fierce Telecom.
