Globecomm Wins $7.3 Million Managed Services Contract

Globecomm Systems Inc., a global provider of communications solutions and services, has been awarded an eight-month managed services contract from a government prime contractor valued at $7.3 million.

Officials with Globecomm Systems (News - Alert) said that the agreement includes two six-month options which if exercised would bring the total contract value at up to $14.5 million.

Company officials said that under the terms set forth in the contract, Globecomm will provide engineering services, managed satellite and terrestrial communications connectivity, and life-cycle support services to the prime contractor who is responsible for the overall deployment of a communications network.

"Globecomm is looking forward to supporting our customer by leveraging Globecomm's combined capabilities of satellite, wireless, and terrestrial communications know-how to help deliver a complex network to the end customer," said Dwight Hunsicker, vice president, government business development, Globecomm, in a statement.

Earlier in November, Globecomm Systems had announced that the company has been awarded a pre-engineered systems contract from a US Government Agency valued at $3.3 million.

Under the terms set forth in the contract, Globecomm will supply multiple Summit and Auto-Explorer Pre-Engineered Terminals. Globecomm anticipates the completion of this contract in the Company's fiscal year 2011 fourth quarter ending June 30, 2011.

In November, Globecomm Systems had announced that it has won a contract to provide wireless managed services in Freetown, Sierra Leone.

Globecomm will provide CDMA-450 switching facilities for voice and data services to wireless operator subscribers and interconnected partners in Sierra Leone. This unique architecture enables the CDMA-450 radio network to be connected via satellite to Globecomm's hosted Mobile Switch Controller (MSC (News - Alert)) and Value Added Services (VAS) in New York. In addition, the network incorporates a WiMax network for additional connectivity throughout the city.

Globecomm's hosted switch platform now carries millions of minutes of voice traffic, hundreds of gigabytes of data traffic, for wireless operators from North America, to the Caribbean and now into Africa. With full redundancy for all major components, the hosted switch platform provides a 100-percent IP-based soft-switch architecture with a forward path to 4G/LTE (News - Alert).

Globecomm maintains a dedicated power system in its Hauppauge, New York-based Network Operations Center in support of these switch platforms, where engineers and technicians provide 24/7 network monitoring and customer support. Redundant fiber circuits and generator systems also support the Globecomm facility.
