Device Cloud by Etherios will further OEM Technology Solutions’ (News - Alert) offerings in preventative customer service and condition-based monitoring on rail systems across the globe.
OEM is leveraging Device Cloud by Etherios, a platform-as-a-service providing two-way communication between any device and the cloud. This service enables products to proactively communicate issues through the Web leading to reduction in operational costs and increase in top-line revenue.
No human intervention is required in the process and companies quickly move to a preventative-based service model.
Etherios is a division of Digi International (News - Alert) and OEM Technology Solutions equipment powers more than 20,000 systems in rail cars in 20 nations. OEM Technology Solutions is an existing customer of Digi International and used its hardware to enable its products wirelessly.
OEM Technology Solutions was challenged with situations wherein its customers suffered due to rail car downtime. A connected rail solution led to decreased downtime leading to an increase in revenue.
"Rail systems are expected to be one of the fastest and most efficient means of transportation, and the Internet of Things makes that a reality,” said Richard Gobee, managing director, OEM Technology Solutions, in a statement. “Device Cloud by Etherios enables us to offer the Internet of Things as a solution to customers to simply and cost effectively benefit from operational efficiencies."
While this previous collaboration allowed vendors and rail operators to gather information remotely, Device Cloud by Etherios makes that information even more accessible by making it available via the web.
"Asset utilization and incident management are major issues for the modern rail operator. Device Cloud by Etherios connectivity provides remote access to critical train data such as location, speed, equipment status and other information via the web, which allows train operators to improve their operations," added Gobee.
Device Cloud by Etherios won "Best Horizontal Implementation" and "Best Vertical Implementation" awards at the Battle of the Platforms during the M2M Evolution Conference & Expo conference last year.
