ATEME recently announced that Universal Satellite Communications (UniSat) has chosen ATEME’s flagship CM5000 encoders for upgrading UniSat’s Satellite News Gathering (SNG) vehicles. This move allows UniSat to free up critical rack space in its SNG vehicles by upgrading its conventional uplink infrastructure. Following the announcement, UniSat has procured six CM5000 encoders with built-in Intermediate Frequency (IF) modulator to support MPEG-4 4:2:2 10-bit encoding, a strategic move to deliver cutting edge technology.
In a release, Mike Antonovich of ATEME said, “We are pleased that UniSat has chosen to upgrade its SNG fleet with the latest in encoding equipment from ATEME. Our products are reliable, future-proof and deliver video quality that is second to none, giving our clients greater confidence to meet the day-in, day-out challenges of satellite newsgathering and remote productions.”
CM5000 encoder is based on ATEME’s unique FPGA design, which allows comprehensive upgrading capabilities thus enabling service operators, broadcasters and satellite up-links to leverage on the latest techniques for video compression. The new encoding technology was quickly accepted by many of UniSat’s clients, thus giving the company a significant edge over its competitors.
George Edwardz of Universal Satellite Communications said, "ATEME's encoders offer an unprecedented degree of compatibility and interoperability with the installed base of SD and HD receivers. As a result our clients have found it incredibly easy to adopt this new technology, which has turned into a competitive advantage for UniSat. Reliability is another reason why we chose ATEME, and after more than six months of intense field operation I can confirm we are very happy with our decision."
