There was a time when physicians thought that by deploying EHRs, their work would be cut out for them, but sadly the nature of workflow and internal processes being different in different hospitals, EHRs didn’t really live up to their expectations. Instead of decreasing processing times and the duration of hospital visits, it was found that adoption of a EHR system was more a pain than a gain.

However, now physicians can take heart from a partnership between NoteSwift, which currently works with Dragon Medical Practice Edition from Nuance (News - Alert), and AmazingCharts, which provides electronic health records and services to healthcare practices.

As a result of the partnership, NoteSwift for Amazing Charts will be made available to users of the Amazing Charts software, bringing an affordable speech recognition solution to users. It has been designed keeping in mind small practices with not too many physicians.

“We are excited to partner with Amazing Charts, one of the easiest to use EHRs in the market with over 7000 users,” said Chris Russell, managing director and founder of NoteSwift, and added, “By using NoteSwift and Dragon, users will experience faster and easier means to create patient notes.”

The Dragon edition is believed to help clinicians and other care providers to dictate medical decision-making and treatment plans directly into a patient's electronic record, saving precious time for both the provider and the patient. It helps physicians improve productivity and make medical decisions faster and with more precision.

Not only can the software turn voice to text much faster and more accurately than is normally possible, but can navigate seamlessly through records searching for information as well. Its intuitive interface makes learning very easy.

The end result is improved documentation, no transcription costs, increased physician satisfaction, greater efficiency and of course happier patients.

Russel, the software engineer-turned-physician, merits credit as it was he who recognized that speech recognition had great promise and could be dedicated to improving physician workflow.

Amazing Charts says that the solution has been adopted by more than 8,600 clinicians in nearly 6,000 private practices and expects it to be rapidly deployed.
