Nuance (News - Alert) Communications announced that it is implementing its speech recognition solutions into Kyocera’s Tempo E2000 handsets.
Kyocera’s (News - Alert) Tempo E2000 is a new 2GB music-enabled handset which also features video on demand (VOD) as well as a 1.3 mega pixel camera.
Nuance is a provider of speech and imaging solutions for businesses and consumers worldwide. Its technologies, applications and services make the user experience more convincing, by transforming the way people interact with information and how they create, share and use documents.
Nuance’s speech-recognition technology embedded into Tempo E2000, enables Kyocera users with speaker-independent name and digit dialing feature. With this the users have two options of dialing a number. They can either dial by pushing a single button and then speaking a name from the phone's contact directory or can even dial by just saying the digits of the phone number.
Nuance’s speech-recognition technology also supports a number of additional command and control functions which include launching applications and navigating menus.
"At Kyocera Wireless (News - Alert), our goal goes beyond just making phones; we want to make lifestyle products that become technology companions for their users," said Dave Carey, vice president and general manager of the Consumer Products Group at Kyocera Wireless Corp, in the press release, "People are verbal communicators so Nuance's voice recognition technology helps us to create more elegant, humanistic devices. We don't believe technology and ease-of-use are mutually exclusive concepts."
"Nuance will continue to work with leading handset manufacturers such as Kyocera to deliver superior speech recognition solutions to people on-the-go," said Michael Thompson (News - Alert), vice president and general manager, mobile search and communications, Nuance, in the press release, "Voice will become one of the most important trends in the wireless industry in 2008 as safety on the road and communication continues to merge at a rapid rate. We look forward to a continued relationship with Kyocera as these solutions are developed."
At present, Tempo E2000 is available to consumers through wireless carrier MetroPCS
