Lextran, the Lexington, KY transit authority, recently unveiled a preliminary release of its latest Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system. Departure times for the next bus are modified by the latest system with the help of real-time data. The latest system aims to assist passengers by offering a clear picture on the bus departures.
Lextran provides a bus stop ID number to all the bus stops across all routes. It also unveiled a telephone number, which can be used by users to get the exact stop times. Users need to dial the number and follow instructions before keying in their stop number for availing the stop times. Alternatively, they can pronounce the stop number to get the required details.
According to Lextran, stops have been arranged by outbound and inbound locations at the length of their routes. In the future, all stops will encompass fresh signs that will include the number required to key into the IVR phone system.
Currently, the IVR system is in "testing" phase as Lextran assesses the system’s capability to handle a huge volume of calls. Interested users can check in the stop times by dialing (859) 244-2020. The system aims to offer considerably precise stop time information.
Lextran operates a fleet of 73 buses, including a University of Kentucky campus shuttle service and a door-to door Paratransit service through Red Cross WHEELS, available on contract basis. The company’s mainline bus service operates from 5:30 a.m. up to 12:30 a.m. The normal bus fare offering unlimited transfers on a one way trip has been nominally priced at one dollar. The company also offers decreased fares along with pass programs for certain qualifying individuals. All Lextran routes are accessible by wheelchairs, making them user friendly for disabled individuals.
Lextran’s Transit Center and Customer Service is located at 200 East Vine Street. The center is operational from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekends. While the company’s administrative office is located at 109 West Loudon Avenue, the training center is situated at 105 Spruce Street.
