IVR Services Create Revolution in Healthcare Sector

Interactive voice response (IVR) services are gaining popularity in healthcare sector. They are increasingly being used in diagnosis of diseases, health FAQs and disease information and advice. In addition to the applications mentioned above, IVR services also find application in public healthcare delivery, says a tech blog DigitalOlympus.com.

According to DigitalOlympus.com spokesperson, “interactive voice response can be used to deliver essential health facts and tips to the public. Healthcare lines can be set up to offer advice and information on healthcare subjects both for everyday and emergency use.”

The blog site also reveals that IVR can be used to design and build experimental health expert systems to perform basic diagnosis or even offer drug prescriptions.

A recent example of the deployment of IVR service in healthcare is the partnership between nVoq Incorporated, a provider of Web-based solutions using voice recognition to speed workflow, and Mi-Corporation (Mi-Co (News - Alert)), a mobile forms software company. The companies have partnered to deliver voice-enabled versions of templates for the home health and long-term care industries like OASIS or MDS.  Additionally, the companies will develop voice-enabled e-Forms for other healthcare settings.

In another such development IVR service providers Cerner and Nuance Communications (News - Alert) expanded their association to accelerate the adoption of smarter healthcare solutions for clinicians worldwide.

Under this partnership, Cerner will integrate Nuance's cloud-based medical voice recognition with its full portfolio of mobile EHR solutions including the recently announced PowerChart Touch, a mobile, cloud-based solution that is part of the Millennium+ portfolio. The partnership allows physicians leverage the power of voice and mobile technologies to improve workflow and reap the benefits of electronic health records. They can now capture more complete patient notes, navigate applications and search for information while on-the-go simply by using their voice.
