The Cloud is Like Santa Claus

The Cloud is Like Santa Claus

It's a strange concept, but for those willing to suspend a bit of disbelief, many of the parallels between how children look at the world and how adults look at the cloud are pretty similar. The common thread between them seems to be the lack of overall information, and as such, the tendency of the human mind to work with what it has available to base conclusions on. This, in turn, has led to the generation of myths about the cloud, what it can do, and what it can't do alike.

New technology inherently creates myths, as incomplete information about its risks and benefits starts making the rounds. Those who remember the mid-1990s, when the Internet was still comparatively new for those who weren't in government research, might remember a 1996 movie called The Net, which featured Sandra Bullock on the run from early-era cyber-criminals who seemingly had the power to alter and erase parts of her life at will by replacing her face and information in public record archives with whatsoever they wished.

Now, of course, we look at such an idea as a quaint, outdated, and horribly wrong-headed line of thought about an important resource that we use every day. Sure, we still use anti-virus protection systems and firewalls, but these are simple protections, akin to locking one's house door at night.

The cloud is no different. While some focus on the benefits of the cloud--the potential cost savings, the ease of accessing files remotely--some instead focus on the risks, like the potential for unauthorized access and the risks that come along with that. While neither side is necessarily wrong, the cloud does indeed have some security risks even as it has the potential to provide cost savings and make remote working possible, both sides aren't providing the whole story that users need to make accurate, informed decisions about the role of the cloud in their operations. This has led to the aforementioned propagation of myths--just like Santa Claus for small children--that need to be dispelled.

To that end, McGee-Smith Analytics is sponsoring a complimentary webinar entitled "Dispelling 7 Myths of Cloud Contact Centers" in a bid to give users more information about the potential benefits, and potential dangers alike, of using a cloud-based environment to host cloud center operations. Therein, attendees will get insight into matters like when the time is right to go from call center operations located on premises to call center operations in the cloud, the accompanying issues to consider, and how to determine which vendor is right for a specific business' needs. Those interested can sign up at this site.

While the cloud is still a comparatively new technology, and as such has several myths surrounding its operation and potential, the infusion of objective information about this technology can make a world of difference in how users see, perceive, and use this very technology.
