Open IPTV Forum Announces Tilgin as Newest Member

By Shamila Janakiraman, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Swedish firm Tilgin has been selected as a new member of the Open IPTV (News - Alert) Forum in an announcement made by Mr.Yun Chao Hu, Chairman of the Forum Steering Group.

The IP customer premises equipment (CPE) designed and supplied by Tilgin (News - Alert) is ideally suited for today’s triple play, next-generation broadband, and IMS-based services. Through its CPE, Tilgin offers expanded IPTV experience. Tilgin also offers operator managed home gateways and IP set-top boxes, remote management systems (RMS), and IMS system design for CPE.

Other new members to join the forum include: Alcatel-Lucent (News - Alert), LG Electronics, Telefonica, TeliaSonera, and ZTE Corporation, all contributing to the IPTV industry.

“We are a full supporter of the Forum’s agenda to drive next-generation IPTV services beyond those currently being deployed. Today’s highly competitive market has created a situation where operators are rushing into the triple play arena with an increasing number of “me too” services,” explained Ola Berglund (News - Alert), CEO of Tilgin. “Our business is to provide CPE technology solutions that can help operators differentiate themselves and create long-term sustainable revenue streams from the opportunities offered by convergence.”

Tilgin is experienced in engineering service node environments in the home that allows integration of IMS and DLNA for converged services to the home. Apart from these Tilgin’s IP residential gateways, set-top boxes, and related management applications enable operators to offer an array of services to customers and to market them to target segments, thereby maximizing profits.

The consumer devices that can be integrated for Tilgin’s services are mobile phones, media servers, network attached storage (NAS), cameras, and home audio systems.
Referring to the Open IPTV Forum, Berglund added it is an initiative which would instigate further advancement in services and applications to the TV.

“There is a real potential to leverage standards-based convergence capabilities and integrate services that can work with other networks and devices. The TV is on its way to becoming just as important for broadband as the PC is today,” she said

The Forum’s founding members are Nokia (News - Alert) Siemens, Ericsson, Samsung, Sony, Panasonic, France Telecom, Philips, and Telecom Italia.
