The Broadvox Story

By Brian Solomon, TMCnet Web Editor

An industry leader in the field of IP trunking, Broadvox (News - Alert) was launched nearly seven years ago. It was an uncertain time economically speaking, and the founders of Broadvox understood the importance of immediate profitability. Many in the telecom industry were struggling to survive, but Broadvox flourished.

The company was founded with the belief that PTSNs needed a change. It was felt that the internet was the perfect tool to use in order to create this change.

Broadvox launched its own carrier service, and built a domestic VoIP network, implementing soft-switching technology from NexTone and gateways from Lucent and Cisco (News - Alert). Thus, they were able to process large amounts of VoIP traffic over a constantly changing North American network.

Realizing the opportunity for affordable wholesale VoIP minutes would not be a permanent fixture for investor return and targeted profitability, Broadvox expanded its soft-switching technology. The company launched user and enterprise offerings beyond legacy PSTN Centrex services, and even further beyond carrier minutes.

Broadvox built partner relationships by enabling this functionality, and implemented Sylantro soft-switching technology, Kagoor Session Border Controllers and IP Unity Unified Messaging Technology. The company also performed extensive interoperability quality control with IP appliances and hardware systems from LG Electronics (News - Alert), Cisco, Mediatrix, Sipura, Polycom, Verilink, AudioCodes and others.

Broadvox continues to innovate in the VoIP space, most recently with its Broadvox GO! SIP Trunking.
