To compensate for the increasing global demand for more bandwidth, IP service providers have had to work tirelessly during the past few years to build up next-generation networks and enhance their existing network infrastructure. NTT America, a U.S subsidiary of NTT Communications (News - Alert), is one of the Tier-1 telecom companies leading this charge.
In fact, NTT America announced on Wednesday that its parent company's Global IP Network has reached 400 Gbps of capacity on its transpacific network. In the past 12 months, NTT Com's network capacity has increased by 100 Gbps, making it one of the most powerful networks in the world.
“As network traffic growth continues to increase exponentially, NTT Com is answering industry demand by scaling quickly to continue to offer the highest capacity transpacific network currently available,” Doug Junkins, CTO of NTT America (News - Alert), noted in a statement.
“Our continued investment in our network infrastructure will enable us to stay ahead of the curve in providing the level of service our customers need to remain competitive," he added.
For NTT America, this spike in network capacity will provide U.S. customers with a host a benefits, including the ability to deliver data overseas at some of the quickest speeds possible. NTT Communications’ Tier-1 IP Backbone Network enables its American subsidiary to connect Internet Service Providers (ISPs), content providers, content delivery networks, and other telecom companies to nations worldwide.
Michael Wheeler (News - Alert), vice president, Global IP Network at NTT America, said that the exponential growth in network capacity has enabled the company to achieve a remarkable customer retention rate. In October of last year, NTT America experienced an unprecedented 0 percent churn rate. Reaching the 400 Gbps milestone should help to continue this unparalleled level of customer satisfaction, Wheeler added.
NTT Com is continually recognized as a Fortune Global 500 leader. In 2010, the telecom giant moved up to 31st on the list. NTT had been listed at 44th in 2009.
