According to a recent report by market intelligence Dell (News - Alert)’Oro Group, DSL port shipments have achieved record levels for a second successive quarter, up 35 percent from the same period last year.
Officials at Dell’Oro stated that this drive is largely due to IP network upgrades from service providers, opening the doors for newer technology offerings, such as IPTV (News - Alert).
"The first quarter marked the first time for significant deployments of high speed VDSL technology outside of Asia, namely in Germany and the U.S.," said Steve Nozik, Principal Analyst for Broadband Access Research at Dell'Oro Group in a statement.
Dell’Oro reported that NEC (News - Alert), Siemens (News - Alert), Sumitomo and ZyXEL were the four leaders in the VDSL segment in the first quarter.
